Johnston hits late FTs as Eastern Illinois tops Morehead State 65-62 for 9th straight win

    MOREHEAD, Kentucky — Cornell Johnston scored 22 points to lead Eastern Illinois to a 65-62 win over Morehead State on Saturday for its ninth straight victory.

    Morehead State's Billy Reader made a layup to cut the lead to one with seven seconds left. Johnston answered with two free throws with six seconds left and Corban Collins missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

    Reggie Smith added 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting and grabbed six rebounds for Eastern Illinois (12-6, 6-0 Ohio Valley).

    Eastern Illinois set a school record with its nine-game winning streak against Division I teams.

    Reader and Brent Arrington had 16 points apiece for Morehead State (7-13, 2-3). Karam Mashour added 12 points and eight boards, and Collins chipped in 12 points.

    Morehead State started the second with a 10-0 run to claim lead at 29-25 and remained on top until the five minute mark when the Panthers scored six-straight.
