WEST BROMWICH, England — Sebastian Larsson scored a late equalizer as Sunderland snatched a 2-2 draw at West Bromwich Albion in their Premier League opener on Saturday.
Jordi Gomez found Patrick van Aanholt down the left and his cut-back was deftly diverted past goalkeeper Ben Foster by Larsson from close range in the 85th minute at the Hawthorns.
West Brom had looked like making a winning start under new manager Alan Irvine after Saido Berahino struck twice following Lee Cattermole's fifth-minute opener for Sunderland from outside the area.
Berahino's first came from a contentious penalty in the 42nd after Victor Anichebe appeared to go down at the slightest hint of a shirt-pull from Valentin Roberge. Berahino struck again in the 74th, getting ahead of Van Aanholt before tapping the ball into the net.
