OPELIKA, Alabama — Authorities are investigating the killing of an Opelika man in a shooting that also wounded a Georgia man.

Lee County sheriff's officials say the gunfire happened late Sunday evening, when 29-year-old Jertheaus Antez Williams was shot in the head and later died.

Authorities said 43-year-old Marcus Keith Byrom of Montezuma, Georgia, was shot multiple times in his left arm and torso. He was flown to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia. Deputies said Byrom was in serious but stable condition Monday afternoon.

The Opelika-Auburn News reports (http://bit.ly/1q6E30w) that multiple 911 calls were made by people attending a poker party an address on U.S. Highway 431 North in Opelika. Deputies and police officers found about 12 people surrounding the two wounded men on their backs, a short distance from the roadway.
