GONZALES, Louisiana — Prosecutors say a state district judge in Ascension Parish has sentenced a Gonzales man to seven years in prison for his role in a September 2012 fatal crash.

The Advocate reports ( ) a six-person jury convicted 31-year-old Ashton Claiborne in March of vehicular homicide in the Sept. 28, 2012, crash that killed 56-year-old Carolyn Brouillette (broo-YET'), of Prairieville.

Judge Ralph Tureau sentenced Claiborne Monday during the hearing at the Parish Courthouse Annex in Gonzales. Tureau suspended the last two years of his seven-year sentence. Claiborne also will serve two years of supervised probation.
