Man suffers gunshot wound to leg; witnesses say multiple shots fired near elementary school

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A 30-year-old man was shot and injured in an Anchorage neighborhood west of Merrill Field.

Police say they took a call of shots fired at 2:20 a.m. Sunday near 12th Avenue and Medfra Street. The intersection is about two blocks from Fairview Elementary School.

Police found a man who had been shot once in the leg. Bullets had also hit a vehicle and a home.

Police say the injured man was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive. His name has not been released.
