BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — The incoming East Baton Rouge Parish superintendent is asking the school board to approve a Central Office reorganization that would eliminate a number of positions and save the school system payroll $1 million.

The Advocate reports ( ) Warren Drake, who took over as acting superintendent June 1, announced his proposal on Tuesday.

The reorganization would substantially change the setup Drake inherited from outgoing Superintendent Bernard Taylor by eliminating several positions Taylor created during his three-year tenure.

On Monday, Drake released a new organizational chart that would remove 34 positions and create nine. The changes would take effect June 30.

The biggest area of savings, almost $600,000, would come from dropping 18 spots for youth advocates, a Taylor-created position designed to head off potential discipline problems at certain schools.
