GAINESVILLE, Georgia — Gov. Nathan Deal is rallying supporters in his hometown of Gainesville with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, while Democrat Jason Carter is swinging through south Georgia before Tuesday's election.
Republican Deal told reporters Saturday he feels confident about his re-election. Christie urged Deal backers to give Deal a second term and joked he'll be back if the race goes to a runoff. A candidate must win more than 50 percent of the vote to prevent that. Libertarian Andrew Hunt is also on the ballot.
Carter told supporters he believes early voting will favor him and he urged people to vote or help others cast a ballot Tuesday. Carter's grandfather, former President Jimmy Carter, also spoke at rallies in metro Atlanta. .
