Gloster officials to ask suspended police chief to return cellphone, other items

GLOSTER, Mississippi — The city of Gloster has been paying the police chief's cellphone bill, even though he's been on administrative leave without pay since June 27.

The Enterprise-Journal reports ( ) the issue arose this week when Alderwoman Betty Ravencraft questioned a $114 cellphone bill for Chief Dandridge Brooks. Brooks was placed on leave pending an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment.

Interim Police Chief Terry Boss says Brooks is still using the cellphone.

Mayor Billy Johnson says Brooks should have turned in the cellphone, badge and gun when he was suspended.

Aldermen did not exclude the cellphone payment from the docket of claims and they continued the discussion in executive session.?

Johnson said he will ask?Brooks again to return the items.
