MIAMI — A man has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting a South Florida teen in a Burger King parking lot.

A Miami-Dade County judge sentenced 27-year-old Johnathan Simon on Friday. A jury found him guilty last month of first-degree murder and attempted murder.

Authorities say 15-year-old Jason Maharaj and his friends were hanging out near the North Miami restaurant in September 2009 when a man approached them. Surveillance video showed an argument break out and the friends running way. The Miami Herald ( ) reports that the man then shot and killed Maharaj after he tripped.

Defense attorneys argued that the video didn't show Simon's face, and there was no physical evidence connecting him to the crime.
