ORCHARD PARK, New York — Add lineman Alex Carrington and linebacker Nigel Bradham to the Buffalo Bills defense's growing list of injured players.

Carrington was placed on season-ending injured reserve Monday, a day after he hurt his left quadriceps in a 30-22 loss at Kansas City. As for Bradham, coach Rex Ryan said "it doesn't look great" for the starter to play against Houston on Sunday after he sprained his right ankle against the Chiefs.

And Ryan added it's too early to tell whether defensive end Mario Williams can return after missing one game with a foot injury.

"Hopefully, Mario can play in some capacity," Ryan said. "I'm not sure. We certainly need him."

Buffalo is already playing without starting defensive tackle Kyle Williams, expected to miss the remainder of the season with a left knee injury, and starting safety Aaron Williams (neck).

Defensive tackle Jerel Worthy is a candidate to be promoted off Buffalo's practice squad. The Bills have also opened another roster spot by releasing rookie linebacker A.J. Tarpley.

In losing two straight, Buffalo (5-6) is fading out of the AFC playoff picture, and now trails Houston (6-5).

The injuries aren't just limited to defense.

Backup running back Karlos Williams' status is uncertain after he hurt his left shoulder against Kansas City. Ryan expects starting right guard John Miller to miss his second consecutive game with a high left ankle sprain.
