MURCIA, Spain — Several riders have been injured in an accident during Saturday's eighth stage of the Spanish Vuelta.

Spanish television showed images of Boeckmans prone on the ground and being attended to by medical staff. His Lotto-Soudal team tweeted that he was "involved in a big crash."

American Tejay Van Garderen, French sprinter Nacer Bouhanni and Ireland's Daniel Martins, who is third in the general classification, also appeared to be hurt.

The crash took place on a straightaway during the 182.5-kilometer (113.4-mile) mainly downhill ride from Puebla de Don Fabrique to Murcia.
