CENTENNIAL, Colorado — Nearly 600 potential jurors in the Colorado theater shooting trial have been dismissed so far.
The Aurora Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/1By06ko ) 143 were released Wednesday, bringing the total to 598. About 1,700 prospective jurors have reported for jury duty over the past seven days.
The jury's job will be not only to decide whether James Holmes was insane when he killed 12 people and wounded 70 others during the July 2012 attack on a Denver area theater, but it might also be asked whether he should be executed.
Judge Carlos Samour said Wednesday he has been happy with the number of prospective jurors who have reported so far. During Tuesday's morning session, for example, he said 147 jurors reported out of about 180 summonses delivered.
About 9,000 possible jurors were initially summoned in the case.
