QUEENSBURY, New York — A man who pleaded guilty to killing his estranged wife on Christmas Eve in her Adirondack home has been sentenced to 23 years to life in state prison.

Local media report that 47-year-old Clifford Burns of Niskayuna was sentenced Friday in the death of 42-year-old Patricia Burns, who was killed in a knife attack at her Lake Luzerne home on Dec. 24.

Burns pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in April.

But the Post-Star of Glens Falls reports ( ) that Burns told the court Friday he was "coached" into a guilty plea and proclaimed his innocence. His lawyer filed a notice of appeal.

Police say her 22-year-old daughter, Megan Jenkins, suffered injuries to her arms when she tried to help her mother.

Lake Luzerne is 45 miles north of Albany.
