MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina — Officials say more flights to popular locations and service to new destinations helped Myrtle Beach International Airport set a record for passengers.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (http://bit.ly/23kDZN1) 1.8 million passengers passed through the airport in 2015, breaking the record of about 1.7 million arrivals and departures set in 2011.

Airport spokesman Kirk Lovell says a demand from tourists for service to Myrtle Beach caused airlines to expand at the airport. The airport has gained nonstop service from 10 markets since 2014.

Lovell says flights to new markets will be announced soon, meaning officials expect the growth in passenger numbers to continue in 2016.
