BRATTLEBORO, Vermont — A veterinarian has testified that animals at a Vermont holiday-themed park had gotten worse, despite a care plan she made for the owner earlier this year.
Dr. Tammy McNamara said when the animals were confiscated Aug. 31 at the Santa's Land park in Putney, two needed care immediately and 18 were neglected.
The Rutland Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1F884k6) McNamara testified Thursday at an animal forfeiture hearing. State's Attorney Tracy Kelly Shriver wants to revoke the animal ownership rights of Lillian Billewicz, who owns Santa's Land.
Billewicz and caretaker Brian Deistler have been charged with animal cruelty after an investigation found dead animals at the park. They've pleaded not guilty.
About two dozen deer have been moved to a park at the Vermont Veterans Home; other animals are in foster care.
