George T. “Tom” Boring, 74, a resident of Ingalls, died on July 24, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born July 22, 1938, in Stamford, TX to Amos P. and Bertha M. (Morgan) Boring.
Tom was retired from the U.S. Navy, having served more than 23 years. He did four tours of duty in Vietnam and then served on the USS Guadalcanal where he was on the team that rescued the Gemini 10 astronauts. Tom also served as a consultant for the U.S. Navy after his retirement. He was also a member of the USS Hancock Association.
Tom is survived by his wife, Mary (Rittenberry)Boring; stepson, Rodney McCallister of Indianapolis; daughters, Joy (Tom) Goosmann of Sunny Vale, CA; Dana (Barry) Dayton of Washington State; Debra Garduno of Walla Walla, WA; step-daughter, Rebecca Jackson of Ingalls; brother, Clarence (Trudy) Boring of Bandera, TX; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Amos Boring; stepdaughter, Tina Baker and great-grandson Silas Jackson.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday July 26, 2012, at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville. Following visitation, graveside services with full military honors will take place at 2 p.m. at Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Ind. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
