Dona Jane Wainscott

Dona Jane Wainscott, 85, went home to be with her Lord on Feb. 13, 2014, after a short illness. She left this earth very peacefully in the Hospice ward at Hancock Regional Hospital, Greenfield. Dona was the third child born to Fred F. and Esta (Snyder) Filson on Sept. 16, 1928, in New Castle.

Her childhood years were spent mainly in Eden, where she graduated from Eden High School in 1946. In 1947, she married Robert E. Wainscott of Greenfield, who preceded her in death. During their 48 year marriage, they raised four children, Patti (Wainscott) Zeis of Fishers, Robert F. Wainscott  of Greenfield, Sherri (Wainscott) Brown of Blue Ridge, Ga., and Jon F. Wainscott of Lawrenceville, Ga and two son-in laws, David Brown of Blue Ridge, Ga. and Marty Zeis of Fishers.

Dona was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Brian Clark, Bruce Clark, Beth Carlson, Nicholas Krebs, Corey Krebs, Lindsay Wainscott, Conner Wainscott, Jacob Wainscott, Nathan Wainscott, Sarah Wainscott, and Noah Wainscott. Her four great-grandchildren are Caleb Jordy, Eden Smith, Christian Carlson, and Chase Carlson.

Dona is survived by three siblings, Audrey (Filson) and Paul Woodward of Noblesville, Bruce and Chris Filson of Eden and Joyce (Filson) Raub of Indianapolis.

She was preceded in death by two siblings, Zane and Nancy Filson of Eden and Jay and Norma Filson of Eden.

Dona enjoyed raising her children and being the wife of an educator and principal in several Indiana cities: Hamlet, Edinburg, Oxford, Hobart, Brook, Greenfield, Garrett, and Shelbyville. Her various interests included: church activities, swimming, writing letters, meeting people, watching old movies, classic cars, traveling and staying connected to her friends and family.

We remember Dona for her creativity, generosity, friendliness, cheerfulness, encouragement to others, a delightful sense of humor, enthusiasm for life and her love for people. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a friend to many. We are grateful for how Dona deeply touched our lives, and she will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. U.S. Hwy 40, Greenfield, Ind. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, also at the mortuary.  Rev. Marty Zeis will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield, Ind.
