Savannah Marie Castle

On Feb. 6, 2014, our beloved and joyous, Savannah Marie Castle (Savvy, Doodlebug) was tragically and all too soon taken to be one of God’s angels. Savannah’s birth on Oct. 16, 1997, was celebrated by all of those who love her. Her parents, Courtney (Sayre) Thompson and Jason “Jay” Castle, hold many precious and timeless memories of the special little girl, as well as do we all that loved her so deeply.

Savannah was a sophomore at Mt. Vernon High School and dreamed of making her place in this world as someone who could show that being different was special.

She loved music and you could always find her rocking out to Lady Gaga, Adele, Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, 80’s rock and roll, rap, hip hop, or any other music she found to fit. It’s obvious Savannah wasn’t put on earth to be your “normal” girl.  She was here to send the message that it’s okay to be who you are and those around you would accept and love you regardless. Savannah was a bright, compassionate and funny spirit.  Her attitude towards life was refreshing. She was such a brave and kindred soul and her beauty, inside and out, could be seen and felt by everyone who really knew her. She was a faithful member of Mohawk United Methodist Church.

Her joys and passions always involved those she loved; singing and playing beauty parlor with her mom, being daddy’s girl and playing video games with him, mothering and playing with her sisters, Sydney and Skylar, crafting and hanging out with Memaw Debbie, snuggling with Papaw Mike, back rubs and cradle rocking with Mama Marti, cooking and jamming to music with Mama Kathy, and shoe shopping and Geocaching with Nana. There are many others that had special bonds with Savannah and for that, always be grateful you too were blessed to be a part of her life.

Those she left behind here on earth to treasure her memories are, her parents, Jay (Amber Scott) Castle and Courtney (Tim) Thompson; paternal grandparents, Mike and Debbie Castle; maternal grandmothers, Marti Sayre and Kathy Coffee; grandpa Jack Riddle; special nana, Karen Curtis; sisters, Sydney and Skylar Castle; stepbrothers, Cody and Cameron Thompson; aunts and uncles, Chris and Jo Castle, Jesse Sayre, and Kara Coffee; great-aunts and uncles, Dooner (Lee) and Lori Deem, Kenny and Pam Donahue, and Tom and Sis Eldridge; cousins, Brennen Castle, Amanda and Marissa Donahue, and Johnna Deem; special uncles, Michael Wallace, Joel Ebarb, and Chris (Xuan) Anies; grandfather, Mike Sayre; and Mama and Papa Jess Hardin. There are many extended family members, too many to list, but you know who you are and we love you and thank you for being a part of Savannah’s life.

Savannah was preceded in death by her special great-grandma, Rena Deem Cox, who always told Savannah, “give ‘em hell”, she loved Savannah’s fiery and stubborn temperament; and her great-grandfather, Marvin Deem.

They say that out of every tragedy comes a light, our light will be knowing that we all had the opportunity to be touched by an angel. Savannah, we love you and miss you more than words can ever express. Nighty, night Savannah. It’s time to go to sleep.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, also at the mortuary. Pastor Marianne Nichols will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
