Willie L. Thetford
Willie L. Thetford, 82, of Pendleton, passed away at The Legacy at Prairie Lakes, Noblesville, on Nov. 13, 2013. Willie was born Nov. 14, 1930 in Devine, Texas to Harold and Annie (Kalka) Thetford. He was raised in Bandera, Texas on his parent’s ranch.
He joined the military, serving in Okinawa, Japan and Korea. Willie served his country for 22 years in the Army and the Air Force, retiring in 1970.
He married Doris Siler from Oklahoma in 1950, living for many years with their children in Texas during his military career.
Willie and Doris moved to Pendleton in 1973 to be near their family and grandchildren. Willie worked at the Pendleton Post Office and owned the Flower Cart with Doris for 16 years. After her death, he retired to Sebring, Florida, returning to Pendleton in 2009.
Willie was active in the Pendleton Lions Club, woodworking and playing golf. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Surviving are his children, Diane (David) Ashley of Pendleton, Willena Jabobs of Tarpley, Texas, Jo Ann (Tim) Albea of Anderson and Bill (Melissa) Thetford of Anderson; grandchildren, Doug Ashley, Dennis Ashley and Deanna Swafford; Lee Jacobs; Pete Albea, Jennifer Polackin, Julie Albea, Ryan Thetford and Emily Exantus; and 15 great-grandchildren and special companion, Helen Knowling; also surviving, brother, Thomas (Nancy) Thetford of San Antonio, Texas.
He was preceded in death by wife, Doris in 1990; brothers, Harold and Johnnie Thetford, and mother and father.

Services were held at 12 noon , Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, Pendleton with Reverend Ryan Thetford officiating. Burial with military honors followed in Grove Lawn Cemetery, Pendleton.
Visitation was held two hours prior to services at Lahm Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
