Donald H Stewart
Donald H. Stewart, 81, of Anderson, was reunited with his beloved wife on Nov. 20, 2013. He was born on June 9, 1932, in Livingston, Tenn., the son of Mildred (Windle) and Roy Stewart.
Don proudly served his country in the Army, 82nd Airborne Division from 1950-1953 during the Korean Conflict. Shortly after his return home, he met the love of his life, Charlotte L. Mathews. They were married on Nov. 14, 1954 in New Castle. She predeceased him by 5 weeks on Oct. 14, 2013.
He was a retired Locomotive Engineer for Conrail retiring in 1994 after 39 years of service.
He was a member of Fellowship Masonic Lodge #681, Indianapolis Murat Shrine, Murat Temple Legion of Honor, Madison County Shrine Club, American Legion Post #117, Railroad Retiree Club and former member of the Scottish Rite Temple. He enjoyed the years that he and Charlotte transported children to the various Children's Shrine Hospitals. He was also a member of the Desert Patrol for many years.
Donald leaves a legacy which includes his children, Brenda (David) Shanafelt, Larry (Debbie Patrick) Stewart, Nancy (Kirk) Staley; grandchildren, Jerimiah Short, Joshua (Jilliann) Short, Leslie (Kyle) Morris, Michael Shanafelt, Tiffany (Timmy) Crum, Lindsay Stewart, Cameron Stewart, Kaelyn Staley, Alexandra Staley; great-grandchildren, Kenzi, Ashleigh, Draven, Arya Skyler and Zia; special granddog, Belle; siblings, Ben (June) Stewart, Phillip (Carol) Stewart, Keith (Debbie) Stewart; sister-in-law, Paula Stewart; brother-in-law, Bill Binion; longtime family friends, Sandy Parker and Debbie Loughman. There are also a host of nieces, nephews, friends both in Indiana and in Mission, Texas, where he and Charlotte spent the last 18 winters.
He was preceded in death by his wife; father, Roy F. Stewart; mother, Mildred (Windle) Stewart; brother, Luther Stewart and sister, Hallie Binion.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2013, with a Masonic service that followed at 2 p.m. at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, Anderson, Ind. Funeral Services were held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the funeral home followed by a Flag Presentation.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at St. Vincent Anderson, Regional Hospital third and fifth floors and Hospice staff.
To Marcia, the care you gave our dad and grandpa was exceptional. The hugs, shoulder to cry on, sympathetic ear and kind words of comfort went beyond anything we expected.
