Carroll A. Ridgeway, 80, passed away on Sept. 2, 2013, in Sedona, Ariz. Carroll was born Oct. 21, 1932, on a farm in Henry Co. Middletown, Ind.
He was a hard worker on his father's farm and graduated from PHS in 1951. After graduation he entered the U S Navy. Subsequently he went to work for IBM from 1957 until his retirement in 1988. He earned many citations and awards for his engineering knowledge and expertise and outstanding dedication.
He was the devoted husband of Gioia (Flosi) Ridgeway. His marriage to Gioia was filled with wonderful years. They spent his retirement traveling and camping and visiting relatives and friends all over the country. They spent their winters in Florida and summers in their camper near Gatlinburg, Tenn. Carroll never met a stranger. He became friends with everyone, everywhere. He always had a smile and a cheerful word. He was quick to help anyone in need and enjoyed making people happy. He loved playing cards. And he was a winner!
He is survived by son, Hartin; daughter, Michelle (Garcia); brothers, Gerald (Barbara) and Ronald Ridgeway; stepson, Larry Gamello (Denise) of Ariz.; he also leaves grandsons, Justin (Kristin), Geoffrey (Heather), Martin, Anthony; and granddaughters, Jenna (Ivan) and Nicole, and Jessica; he also leaves a great-grandson, Calvin; and step-sisters, Sue Snideman and Anna Lou Johnson.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Arthur Ridgeway and Mildred (Gale) Ridgeway Arnett and stepdad W. Dean Arnett and stepmother, Hessell Ridgeway and daughter, Theresa (Hege).
Throughout the health problems in his later years, he remained upbeat and optimistic. He was loved by many and will be missed by all!
Memorial services and interment will be at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Ovid, Ind., Oct. 5 at 3 p.m.
