Richard “Dick” L. Godbey

Richard “Dick” L. Godbey, 69, of Pendleton, died Monday, Sept.16, 2013, at Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis surrounded by his family. Born Dec. 28, 1943, in Anderson, he was a lifetime resident of Pendleton. Dick was the son of the late Merle Godbey and Kathleen (Montgomery, Godbey) Shaul.

Dick was the owner of R.L. Godbey Construction in Pendleton for more than 40 years. He helped shape the town of Pendleton through his generous spirit – the landscape of Pendleton will forever reflect his dedication, passion, and love of his beloved hometown. Dick was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of the Pendleton Christian Church, served on the board of Outfitters, Inc., was a volunteer firefighter and an EMT with Pendleton Ambulance Service and served Pendleton through many other community organizations.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judith D. (King, Robinson) Godbey along with six children, Ryan (Kecia) Godbey of Greenfield, Rhonda (Chris) Thomas of Daleville, Shelly (Robinson) Crehan of Troy, Ill., Matt (Esther) Robinson of Vandalia, Mo., Scott Robinson of Jacksonville, Ill., and Marcie (Anthony) Wandel of Pendleton; 17 beloved grandchildren, Reid, Madeline, and Evan Godbey, Austin and Brad Thomas, Austin, Alex, Aric and Dani Crehan, Lucas, Abbey and Emily Robinson, Tristan, Jessica and Annika Robinson and Makenzie and Adam Wandel; two brothers, Monte (Angie) Godbey of Greenfield and Gary (Bette) Godbey of Pendleton; sister, Judy (Bill) Wihebrink of Pendleton; and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. “That’s Right!”

Visitation was held from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19th, 2013,  and from 12 -  2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, with the memorial service immediately following at 2 p.m. at Pendleton Christian Church, 1170 South Pendleton Avenue, with Pastor Jay Harvey officiating. Burial followed in Friends Cemetery, Pendleton.
