Martha J. Smalley, 88, of Reseda, Calif., formerly of Shirley, passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at Tarzana Medical Center in California. She was born Feb. 29, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Addison Lowell and Catherine Louise (Compton) Jessup.
Martha worked for the United States Postal service at numerous branches for over 45 years. Martha was a volunteer for the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and at the V.A. Hospital for many years. Martha was a member of the Shirley Christian Church, Shirley, Ind.
Survivors include sisters and brothers, Iris (James) Montgomery of Calif., Sara Broadwater of Greenfield, John (Ida) Jessup of Knightstown, Max (Rosemary) Jessup of Spiceland, Nancy (James) Pennington of Indianapolis, Eleanor (Don) Painter of New Castle, Joy (Tim) Woodruff of Liberty, Ind.; niece, Lynn Kleiman of Greenfield; several other nieces and nephews; and several special friends in California.
She was preceded by her parents, and her husband Clifford Lee Smalley; sisters, Betty Young, Ruth Davisson, Dorothy Riggs; and brother, Robert L. Jessup.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 at Condo and Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.
