Zion Lutheran campaign encourages generosity

NEW PALESTINE — Zion Lutheran Church and School took part in an all-encompassing stewardship campaign this past month.

The theme was “Live LoveD,” and all of the elements worked together to encourage congregants to live out the love that is so generously given by God in Christ.

Pastor Jason Taylor’s sermons for the month contained this message. Families were also encouraged to take a devotional packet to share for each of three weeks. A major component was service. Congregants were asked to be aware of ways they could serve others, in small ways as well as big. A few planned service projects were available.

One group went down to Henryville and helped re-roof a trailer home that had been damaged during the 2012 tornado.

Tear Down the Walls (tdwm.org) welcomed another group from the church to assist in remodeling a home for three homeless men to live in.

Another group visited Lutherwood, a ministry that helps troubled youth, and provided pizza, a devotional and some fun games. This group also helped organize donations that had been received by the Sharing Place food pantry.

Wheeler Kitchen was pleased to have another group from Zion help out. This group served dinner to more than 350 men.

If none of those opportunities to serve worked out, congregants were invited to find another way to serve in the community.

Zion Lutheran School classrooms found their own special way to serve. Each class sponsored one child at Grace Orphanage in Haiti and collected clothing, personal care and classroom items for them. This is also one of the orphanages served by the Kids Against Hunger packing event at Zion this past November.
