GREENFIELD — It’s back to the drawing board for the Hancock County Tourism Commission on whether to create a new welcome center for the county.
The commission has struggled in its first year in deciding how the group would mesh with the Hancock County Visitors Bureau, a separate nonprofit entity.
In July, the commission approved a 2013 budget that includes $29,000 to rent space for a center.
But members of the visitors bureau, which receives its operating budget from the commission, raised red flags over the plan. They say the welcome center would take money away from them.
Now, the two groups, which have often been hostile to one another over the last year, have been told to rework their budgets so both parties are happy.
