GREENFIELD — Voluntary water restrictions are in effect for Greenfield residents and businesses, and city officials say a mandatory watering ban may take effect in the near future.

A record-breaking drought prompted Mark Nance, superintendent of the Greenfield Water Department, to ask for customers of Greenfield Utilities to water their lawns every two or three days between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. That’s stricter than the prior restriction of 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
