New Palestine volleyball swept Mt. Vernon in three sets Monday at NP, prevailing 25-12, 25-22, 25-18.
Megan Hawley and Katlyn Keele led a balanced Dragon offense with eight kills each, helping power an early start in the opening game as NP jumped ahead 10-3 and never looked back. The second two games were see-saw contests that saw the Dragons take a late lead, before Sarah Rominger’s ace on match point ended things.
Mikayla Little had five kills for the Dragons. Poetz also helped pace the offense with 22 assists.
Hawley, Jamie Morris, Little and Ellen Poetz had two aces each.
Morris paced the defense with 19 digs. Hawley had eight and Keele six.
The Dragons are now 17-14 and 2-4 in the HHC, clinching a winning season. They finish regular-season play Thursday at home against Franklin, then open the sectional at home Oct. 26 against either Brebeuf or Herron.
The Dragon JV won in three games.
Royals lose to Edinburgh, beat Indiana School for Deaf
Eastern Hancock wrapped up its Mid-Hoosier Conference slate by falling to Edinburgh 25-18, 19-25, 25-19, 25-19 Monday.
EH (2-6 MHC) was paced by Melissa Bedell (15 kills, 10 assists, 19 digs), Hannah Best (26 digs) and Lauren Harmon (nine kills, 13 digs).
Tuesday, the Royals closed their regular season with a 14-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-15, 15-9 victory over Indiana School for the Deaf.
Bedell had 24 kills, 12 assists and 13 digs. Best added 43 digs.
Eastern Hancock (8-20) faces Hagerstown Oct. 24 in a Sectional 41 quarterfinal match.

Greenfield-Central lost to 4A No. 4 Yorktown 25-18, 25-14, 25-19 Tuesday.
The Cougars take on Richmond in Sectional 9 quarterfinal action on Oct. 24.
