GREENFIELD — The Hancock County prosecutor’s office welcomed a new investigator this week.
Rick Windisch, 61, of Greenfield, replaces former investigator Steve Banks, who left the office in August to take a position with the State Lottery Commission of Indiana.
Former Prosecutor Dean Dobbins, who lost his bid for re-election in 2010, cut the prosecutor’s investigator position as a means of saving money, but Prosecutor Michael Griffin maintains the investigator is a critical link between law enforcement and the prosecutor’s office.
The investigator, a full-time position, assists the office in a variety of ways, including locating witnesses, serving court papers and serving as a liaison between law enforcement and the prosecutor.
The investigator will also handle some child-support and truancy cases, Griffin said.
Windisch comes to the position with considerable experience, including 24 years with the former Indianapolis Police Department.
