Trees stolen from Piney Acres

FORTVILLE — Owners of Piney Acres Tree farm found the lot several trees short during the weekend, thanks to the work of a late-night Grinch, according to a police report.

Janice Zenor, who, along with husband Rex, owns the tree farm in the 1100 block of East CR 1000N, called police Saturday morning after discovering several Christmas trees missing from the lot. She told police she believes they were stolen overnight after the store was closed.

The trees, four Fraser firs and one Noble fir, were among the selection of pre-cut trees available for purchase, according to police reports.

There was little responding officers could do without a description of a suspect or vehicle, according to police reports. There is also no means of identifying the trees as belonging to a particular farm, even if they are found.

The owners told the responding officer they’ve had difficulty with criminal mischief at the farm in the past and asked for increased patrols in the area to deter thieves. They also said they plan to install surveillance equipment.

Anyone with information on the theft should contact the detective division at the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department at (317) 477-1199.
