PENDLETON — Mt. Vernon track and field coach Tim Leonard calls Aliyah Myers “the glue that holds the sprinters together.” Myers, a junior, calls freshman teammate Olivia Coleman her “little sister.”
Now Leonard can call them both regional qualifiers.
Running in Tuesday’s sectional at Pendleton Heights, Coleman won the 400-meter dash, took second in the long jump and finished fourth in the 200. Myers took second in the 100 and helped MV’s 1,600 relay team finish fourth.
It was a great night, not just for the sprinters, but for the entire MV team. The Marauders finished second in the 12-team meet (the Arabians won on their home track) and will be well represented at the regional at Ben Davis.
“Our team came out here and competed really, really well,” said Mandy Bode, who finished third in the 800 and ran on two qualifying relay teams.
