SHELBYVILLE — “Never let them see you sweat” is common enough refrain, in sports and in society as a whole.
For the New Palestine girls’ 1,600 meter relay team, sweating was unavoidable Tuesday at the track and field sectional at Shelbyville. Instead, their motto was “Never let them see you vomit.”
Junior middle distance runner Lauren Joray didn’t feel well Tuesday. She finished the 800 in two minutes, 25.18 seconds, good enough for third place and a spot in next week’s regional (the top four places advance), but nearly three seconds slower than her runner-up 800 sectional finish of a year ago.
Corrine Zehner noticed her teammate struggling as the day’s final event — the 1600 relay — approached.
