Track Wrap: Locals move on to Indoor State Finals

Eastern Hancock’s Derrik Noel, Justin Cool-Luke, Shelby Mourey and three relays will represent Eastern Hancock in the Indoor State Finals Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan.

Competing Saturday in the Patriot Invitational at Anderson University, a state qualifier, Noel was eighth in the high jump with a leap of 6-0. Cool-Luke finished 11th with a jump of 5-8.

The Royals’ 1,600 relay team of Noel, Cool-Luke, Devyn Brinson and Bryce Spegal was eighth, putting the quartet in the State Finals.

Mourey was third in the high jump for the EH girls.

The 3,200 relay of Emiley Carlton, Cara Johnson, Cassie Hancock and Kiersten Schrope was 14th, while the 800 relay of Mourey, Karlee Gray, Madison Lee and Kristen Eischen placed ninth. Both relays qualified.

Kaycee Ruble placed sixth in the shot put.

Three Cougars, one relay going to state

Greenfield-Central girls track members Regan Lewis, Savannah Girolami and the 1,600 relay are going to the State Finals.

After competing in Saturday’s qualifier at DePauw, Lewis enters the State Finals tied for second in the high jump.

Girolami is 22nd in the long jump, and the 1,600 relay of Maddie Wise, Rebecca Flora, Lewis and Girolami is 15th.

Wise ranks 25th in the state in the 60-meter hurdles.

Tyler Beeson will represent the boys team at the Indoor State Finals, as he stands 17th in the shot put.

Logan Addington (shot put) is 26th in the shot put and has an outside shot of moving into the state-bound top 24 depending on if anyone ahead of him does not declare for the meet.

Records fall for Mt. Veron girls

The Mt. Vernon girls track team also competed in the Patriot Invitational Saturday, but did not send any athletes to the State Finals.

Olivia Coleman set a new school record in the 200-meter dash while running the first leg of the 800-meter relay, which finished third and set a new indoor school record. Other relay members were Phylisia Donaldson, Taylor Riggs and Javin Whiteside.

Coleman was also sixth in the 60-meter dash. Donaldson was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles.

The 3,200 relay of Sam Sanders, Morgan Hayse, Leah Chaves and Ellie Walkey was eighth.

On the boys side, the Marauders’ 3,200 relay of Braxton Ratekin, Austin Wuethrich, Andrew Thaxton and Jimmy McDonald was fifth.

Wyatt Gutierrez was sixth in the shot put for MV. Caleb White was seventh in the 60-meter dash.

The 800 relay of White, Ross Houk, Donovan Bigelow and Brendan Bradfield finished in 14th place.
