BROWN TOWNSHIP — Elected officials in eastern Hancock County remain at odds over how to pay for fire protection. At issue: the disparity in how much households pay in taxes for fire and emergency medical services.

Brown Township officials were surprised when they recently received two letters from attorneys seeking more money for the Shirley and Wilkinson volunteer fire departments.
