Tigers win sectional preview matchup vs. Royals

Follow Daily Reporter:

The Eastern Hancock boys basketball team ended its 2012-13 regular season with a loss Friday. But the Royals only need to wait five days to exact their revenge.

Hagerstown dominated the rebounding battle Friday and handed the visiting Royals a 58-47 defeat. Class 2A No. 16 Hagerstown (19-2) will face Eastern Hancock (6-14) in their same home gym Wednesday in the opening round of Sectional 42.

“I didn’t see a team that was impossible to beat,” EH coach Aaron Spaulding. “They’re a good team and we’re certainly going to have to play our best, but it’s doable.

“The main thing tonight was the rebounding. We got beat by 15 on the boards, and that has to be fixed if we’re going to extend our season Wednesday.”

Isaiah McCormick (13 points) and Cody Wallace (10 points) paced the Royals, who were once again without their starting backcourt of Victor Vincz (concussion-like symptoms) and Garrett Hancock (mono).

Hancock will likely return in the sectional opener, Spaulding said, while Vincz is doubtful.

Tyler Black had 18 points Friday to lead the Tigers, who led by four points with three minutes left in the third quarter before surging ahead.

EH’s junior varsity team finished its season 17-3 with a 37-29 victory. Dustin Davidson had 12 points for the victors.
