GREENFIELD — A Greenfield teen faces charges of child molest over what she said was a consensual sex act with another young girl.

Stormy Cates, 19, pleaded not guilty to two counts of molest Friday in Hancock Circuit Court.

Her case stems from an incident that occurred with a 12-year-old girl who was staying at her house around Christmastime, according to court documents.

The girl told police Cates performed a sex act on her when she was sleeping, according to police reports. She added that Cates got into the shower with her and wouldn’t let the girl leave but didn’t touch her, court documents state.

Cates admitted to the sex act but said it came at the girl’s request. She said she didn’t realize she had committed a crime, court documents state.

Cates was arrested Friday and assigned a $5,000 cash bond. She remained in the Hancock County Jail at press time.

Between the two felony charges, she faces 28 years and up to $20,000 in fines.

Cates returns to court for a hearing April 10.
