In Jessica Brown, Scott Kreiger knew he was getting one of the top point guards in the state.

Brown, after all, was selected for the Indiana All-Star team, the group of high school basketball standouts that will take on Kentucky in the annual series this weekend. What Kreiger, the All-Stars’ coach from Fort Wayne Canterbury, didn’t realize until recently, however, was that he was getting an all-star individual.

As much of Hancock County has professed for years now, Brown’s character is just as exemplary as the moves she displayed the last four seasons for the Mt. Vernon basketball team.

Not long after the Indiana All-Star team was announced on March 21, Kreiger sent text messages to all of the players to introduce himself and to start laying the groundwork for the team’s upcoming mission.

Brown, naturally, was the first player to respond.
