It was a scary morning for the Greenfield Red Hat Dollies Monday as they convened for their monthly meeting at Hometown Pizza in Greenfield.
The 25-member club has been in existence for 10 years and serves as a social support group for area seniors, said Ena McClane, who organized October’s gathering.
Group members range from 55 to 90, “and for some it might be the only opportunity they have to get out all month,” McClane said.
She said about 20 Red Hat groups meet at various times throughout the county to give seniors the chance to socialize and catch up.
It’s not all fun and games, however. The Red Hat Dollies also volunteer and donate to the Hancock County Food Pantry, campaign for Toys for Tots, assist with the St. Michael’s Bazaar and work for other charitable causes.
“It’s just a group of seniors having a good time,” she said. “But we stay pretty full. We are a crazy bunch.”
