CAMBRIDGE CITY — Eastern Hancock softball’s sectional championship aspirations remain alive after the Royals dispatched Centerville 12-3 Tuesday evening in the third quarterfinal of the Class 2A Sectional 41 bracket at Cambridge City Lincoln.

EH, which entered the postseason having lost four of its past six games, routed Centerville 15-5 back on May 4, and again used its hitting prowess to give the Bulldogs’ defense headaches Tuesday, collecting 14 hits.

Savannah Blevins, Taylor Denny and Tori Bednarski, Skyler Overleese and Allison Dickey each had at least two hits for the Royals (16-12), with Peyton Neisler, Blevins and Bednarski knocking triples.

Taylor Mercer was solid on the mound, tossing a complete game with five strikeouts while allowing eight hits for her team-leading 10th win of the season.

The Royals will take on Cambridge City, which beat Knightstown 17-0 earlier Tuesday, today at 7 p.m. in the second semifinal. Cambridge City defeated visiting Eastern Hancock 10-0 on May 15.

Hagerstown and defending sectional champ Union County face-off in the first semifinal at 5 p.m.
