GREENFIELD — With just one day until school was scheduled to start, Christy Harpold was surprised administrators at J.B. Stephens Elementary would choose Tuesday afternoon to call a must-attend meeting in the school’s cafeteria.
There were classrooms to put together and lessons to plan, she and her co-workers reasoned. The meeting seemed a bit inopportune.
When the curtain opened to reveal a stage full of people holding flowers and cards, Harpold’s astonishment grew.
“That’s my family!” Harpold, the school social worker, exclaimed.
