Moore 8 points in second game back

FORTVILLE — This season has been a test of Mt. Vernon girls basketball coach Julie Shelton’s management skills.

She is managing expectations — and the big bullseye — after winning the state 3A title last season.

She is managing the move up to 4A competition.

She is managing a mountain of injuries, including one to her star senior post Erica Moore — who has her minutes per game managed by her doctor.

And she is managing to continue to win.

Wednesday night the Marauders forced 19 turnovers and got 22 points from Sydney Shelton in a rare appearance off the bench to defeat Guerin Catholic, 53-33.

“The biggest thing right now is getting healthy,” said coach Shelton as her team is less than three weeks from the start of playoffs. “We haven’t been able to practice real hard because we have so few bodies.”
