Pilot Mike Winterboer signs and presents Joan Tribby, 84, with a souvenir hat after her flight. Tribby, who%u2019s from Hancock County, and 10 other residents from area assisted living facilities went on an aviation outing Friday at Indianapolis Regional Airport.

It wasn’t the usual Friday afternoon for Joan Tribby as she and 10 other residents of Bloom at Eagle Creek and Bloom at German Church assisted-living facilities in Indianapolis took to the air in a 1942 Stearman biplane from Indianapolis Regional Airport in Mt. Comfort.

The outing was part of Bloom’s program to allow residents to do things they’ve never done before, said executive director James Kesler.

Nevada-based Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation provided the 10-minute jaunts, which the 84-year-old former McCordsville resident (left) proclaimed as “a most wonderful experience.”
