It had been nine long weeks since members of the Greenfield-Central football team tasted victory.
The Cougars’ return to the win column could not have been much more dramatic last week at Muncie Central, as they scored 16 unanswered fourth-quarter points to stun the host Bearcats 23-22 in the quarterfinal round of Sectional 21 play.
“It was exciting to say the least,” G-C coach Roger Dodson said. “It was a great game for the kids to win. Any time you can come from behind the way they did, it’s a pretty positive experience.
“The kids got another week.”
Greenfield’s much maligned defense — which had yielded 48.3 points per game in its final four regular season games — stepped up with a pair a clutch sacks and a safety late in the fourth quarter to help seal the program’s fourth straight win in a sectional opener.
