The Eastern Hancock football team rallied from a 19-0 deficit to beat Indian Creek in Week 3, 33-28. That Royals comeback on Sept. 3 included a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns, including an 81-yard pass from Logan Splater to Austin Smith with less than five minutes remaining to seal the victory.
For Splater, Smith and other Eastern Hancock first-stringers, that long-ago game marked the last time they got meaningful fourth-quarter playing time.
“I don’t think our varsity team has played in the fourth quarter since Milan except for maybe a couple snaps here and there,” EH coach Pat Echeverria said of the Royals’ 52-27 win over the Indians in Week 4. “But we haven’t played a full fourth quarter since Indian Creek.”
In the last six games, Class A No. 4 Eastern Hancock (10-0) has outscored its competition 417-58, with the Royals’ second unit taking over for the starters late in the blowouts.
