HANCOCK COUNTY — An agreement appears to have been reached in long-simmering row between a Vernon Township auto salvage yard and the county over parking and storing vehicles outside its property.
Last week, an agreed judgment was entered in the county board of zoning appeals’ legal action against Fortville Auto Salvage at 9972 N. CR 50W and its owner, Jeffrey Frazier, pre-empting a final hearing that was set on the matter.
In its January complaint against the business, the BZA sought to stop the yard from parking cars along the roadside.
Court records show that in 1997 Frazier and the county entered into an agreement requiring solid fencing along the north and east boundaries of his operation and prohibiting any parking outside the fenced property along N. CR 50 W.
However, in its complaint the county alleged the salvage yard “repeatedly” violated the terms of the agreement by allowing salvage, customer and employee cars to be parked along the road outside the fenced perimeter.
