GREENSBURG — By air and by ground, on offense and on defense, the Eastern Hancock Royals outplayed the South Decatur Cougars, winning 61-7 at Seibel Field.
The Royals 2-0 (1-0 Mid-Indiana Football Conference) compiled 579 yard of total offense. The defense held SD to just 235 yards.
EH sophomore running back Spencer Gilbert ran for 261 yards on 20 attempts. He also added an interception in the third quarter.
“He (Gilbert) is a special player,” EH coach Pat Echeverria said. “We are going to lean on him all year long.”
The scoring occurred early and often for the Royals.
After the Royals defense held SD to a four and out in its first possession, the offense marched down the field scoring in under two minutes on a six-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Henderson from Logan Splater.
