Doug Laker believes basketball fans are in for a treat Saturday when 3A No. 1 Lebanon (21-3) and No. 6 Mt. Vernon (19-4) tip-off Saturday morning in the Danville regional semifinals.

Sure, both teams are plenty good — they wouldn’t still be alive in the state tournament otherwise.

No, the Greenfield-Central coach was referencing each squad’s star rookie: Kristen Spolyar of Lebanon and Sydney Shelton of Mt. Vernon.

“We might have the two best freshmen in the state going at each other,” he commented.
