GREENFIELD — Gray skies, heavy with rain clouds, have rarely been such a welcome sight.

After more than two months of scorching hot temperatures and record drought, Greenfield received more than an inch of rain over the past three days; parts of the county received several inches.

But while the rain was much-needed, the amount is unlikely to do much long-term good in alleviating the drought.
