INDIANAPOLIS — Mt. Vernon’s volleyball team practically had its back to the wall Saturday even before receiving Guerin Catholic’s first serve of the Class 3A Sectional 26 semifinal.
Marauders’ coach Kris Lashaway brought just one senior to Brebeuf Jesuit, setter Ellie Balbach, and she wasn’t at 100 percent. That left a team of underclassmen to try to figure out a taller and experienced Golden Eagles squad.
Guerin had its way with MV, coasting 25-10, 25-7, 25-17. The Marauders finished 8-26.
“We’re rebuilding and we’re young, and the last three teams in the sectional (Guerin, Brebeuf and Bishop Chatard) are senior loaded and we’ve got 50 percent freshmen and sophomores,” Lashaway said. “I can’t make it any better and it is what it is.”
