McCORDSVILLE — After nearly a year of trying without success to get the owners of a Vernon Township residence to clean up their property, the county has taken the matter to court.
The Hancock County Board of Zoning Appeals filed a lawsuit Friday in Hancock County Superior Court 1, asking for an order forcing the owners of the dwelling in the 7100 block of North CR 200W to do something about debris on their property. County records show neighbors have complained numerous times.
According to the county’s complaint, the property is owned by the Leonard and Elizabeth Stark Living Trust. The Starks live in Pleasant Hill, Tenn.
The owners were initially served with a notice of violation and fined $50 by the county in December 2012, with another notice and $100 fine issued in April, according to the county’s complaint.
Though the owners have paid both fines, county officials say no progress has been made in cleaning up the property.
