GREENFIELD — The plot of this year’s Hancock County Children’s Theater production is one that, for those who have long supported the summer drama program, hits close to home.

The musical tells the story of a town that comes together to save a community center after a lack of funding leaves the building in danger of being torn down and dozens of children worrying they’ll have something they love taken away from them.

In 2003, the children’s theater program found itself in a similar situation. After eight years of being supported by the county’s four school corporations, organizers learned their benefactors would no longer be able to fund the program after the state started making cuts to school funding.
